Cannon Subaru Owner Danny Cannon Filming Local TV Ad for Share the Love Event

As part of its Share the Love event, Cannon Subaru is donating $25 to the SPCA for each test drive during the month of December. Our goal is 100 test drives (that’s $2,500 for the SPCA animals!). What an easy way to donate money to our four-legged friends! Cannon Subaru is located at 5210 S. Florida Avenue in Lakeland.

On December 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., SPCA will be at the dealership with Clicker Training demonstrations, adoptable animals and lots of great pet merchandise for your four-legged friends and the animal lovers in your life. That Saturday Cannon Subaru will offer pet pictures with Santa Paws as well as free BBQ and sodas. Help us make Share the Love a success for our homeless animals–test drive a Subaru today!

NOMINATE YOUR DOG!

Applications must include all of the following:

1. Your pet’s name, age and breed (mix is an acceptable breed)
2. Your name, address, phone number and e-mail address
3. A photo of your dog.  Electronic photos must be submitted as a hi-resolution (at least 300 dpi) .jpg file attachment.
4. A testimonial (300 words or less) telling how your dog is special, has overcome adversity, has impacted you and/or your family, or has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
5. Photos, electronic images and essays will not be returned and will become the property of SPCA, Inc., which reserves the right to reproduce, publish and or exhibit them without compensation to the entrant.

SELECTION PROCESS
Contest entries will be judged by the 2012 Walk for the Animals event team and selection will be based on compliance with the contest rules listed above and the story you tell in your testimonial of 300 words or less. The TOP 10 entries will be featured at www.lovemyspca.com and the 2012 Walk for the Animals Mascot will be selected by public online vote.

ELIGIBILITY
Nominated dogs must be spayed or neutered, have good manners and be available to attend the Walk for the Animals on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Lake Hollingsworth. SPCA employee-owned or Board-member-owned dogs are ineligible.

DEADLINES
Jan. 2 – Deadline for entries at 5:00 p.m.
Jan. 10 – Online voting begins at 8:00 a.m.
Jan. 31 – Online voting ends at 5:00 p.m.

PRIZES

• Grand Prize: A one-year supply of Purina dog food, a basket of toys and treats; photo in March 2012 Lifeline newsletter, SPCA website and brochures; the honor of leading the Walk for the Animals on April 21 as the Mascot.
• Second & Third Place: A six-month supply of Purina dog food; photo on SPCA website; the honor of accompanying the Mascot in leading the Walk for the Animals on April 21.

Bring your pooch along to watch Lakeland’s Flying Tigers face the St. Lucie Mets at Joker Marchant Stadium “Tigertown” located at 2301 Lakeland Hills Boulevard in Lakeland on Friday, July 15. Half of the proceeds from all pre-sell tickets and all pooch passes will benefit the SPCA. Human pre-sell tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at http://bit.ly/spcatickets. Pooch passes cost $1 and can be bought ahead of time at the above web address or the night of the game. The gates will open at 6 p.m. and the players will take the field at 7 p.m. One lucky attendee will receive a prize basket containing dog-themed sports items and treats.

It’s a summer camp for children in grades 3-8 (entering in the fall is fine). Last year was our first year to offer this to the community and the kids loved it! In fact, many of them returned to the camp this year!

We’ll have several new activities this year, a new teacher and the camp will go a little longer than in the past, 9-3 instead of 9-1.

A special tail-wag to you for putting the “fun” in fund raising and making the SPCA’s 19^th annual Pets on Parade Walkathon and 5K Run a howling success!

We salute all of you who arrived at 6:30 a.m. to set up the tents & tables, registered everyone, supervised & judged the contests, handed out gallons of water and served hundreds of donuts, hot dogs and hamburgers.  Your dependability, faith in the SPCA mission, and good humor make our special events run like clockwork.

Thanks to our sponsors, walkers and volunteers, more than $100,000 was raised to provide food, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and medical care for 7,000 homeless pets that will enter the SPCA’s Lakeland adoption center this year.  With 500 walkers we could double that amount to help even more animals.  Encourage your two and four legged friends to paw-ticipate in this important fund raiser and morning of doggone great fun on April 21, 2012.  Please leave a suggestion on how we can make next year’s event even bigger and better.
