A few weeks ago, we petitioned our supporters to help orphaned pet, Lemondrop. He’s a great looking, lab mix with a heart of gold and a charism about him that makes you want to love him forever. The only thing stopping this guy was an old fracture on one of his rear legs that left him hopping and distributing his weight onto his front paws. After our vets took a look at him, we decided that a cart was the next best thing. So, we asked for your help and boy did you answer that call!

Not only did donations begin pouring in, but word got out to Veterinary Healthcare Associates in Winter Haven. VHA decided to donate and perform orthopedic surgery for Lemondrop and follow the surgery with intense rehabilitation to give him a new leash on life. All of the monies that were donated for Lemondrop have been put in his very own “Lemondrop Fund” and will be used to help future canines with similar health issues.

I went to one of Lemondrop’s rehabilitation appointments last week and fell in love with him all over again. He has an insatiable spirit and the ability to liven the spirits of anyone around him. Tracie Pollock, a certified canine rehabilitation assistant, bragged on how well Lemondrop has been doing and we all made note that he loved to rehab in front of an audience. He was at his best behavior and has made great progress since day one and there are still a few weeks left until his rehabilitation is over. After the physical therapy is complete, he will be ready to find his forever home.

The SPCA owes a big thank you to all of you that donated to help Lemondrop, and of course, a big thank you to Veterinary Healthcare Associates. Their facility was top-notch along with their friendly and helpful staff.

We cannot do what we do without you, and we cannot give to them unless you give to us. We are so thankful to be loved and supported by people like you. Happy holidays!
