I started working at the SPCA July 31, 2007 and within a week I was fostering the kittens too young to be adopted. We have so many amazing people who help foster the young puppies and kittens and it makes an impact on just how many more we can save.
You either have the gift or you don’t, those who foster will understand the passion and the need to do all they can to save an innocent creatures life. I don’t stop at dogs and cats I rescue turtles who try to cross the road during rush hour only to be yelled at that “it’s only an animal”. I do nothing in moderation it is all or nothing. I give the helpless hope, I give them my love and send them off into the world to wonderful forever families and know in my heart God put me here for a reason.
When you look into the eyes of each animal that made it to the kennels and catteries listen closely and you can hear them say, “CHOOSE ME”.

I came to your facility in Sept 2002, looking for a pet. I had just been divorced and needed a dog to let me know if my ex or someone else came into my home during my absence. Well I saw this Lhasa/Terrier mix named at the time Rizzo. He wasn’t drop dead beautiful, in fact it looked like he had someones bad hair weave on his back. But something told me/us to take a chance on him. So we adopted “Rizzo”, changed his name to “Charlie” and loved him, cared for him, learned from him. In February my little dog Dusty died, his bud since 9/02. We were all sadden by his passing including Charlie. So after a short time grieving, my brother and I visited you to have a playmate for Charlie and give a home to a less fortunate dog. Well we found “Paulie Walnuts”. He was nervous and not sure of things, but he has adapted to his change and is thriving. This week- Aug. 5, 2009 our Charlie died. The official death is congested heart failure. But we know he died from a broken heart. You see, he had been depressed since his brother died in Feb.
We just want to say that we will miss him very much because he was grateful to have had a family who loved him. We know he was fortunate to have been adopted and given a chance to live his life to its fullest, because across the world many are euthanized. So I want to say thank you. Because we were blessed with Charlie for 7yrs.
Thank you for all you do for the animals.

Thank you for your story, you have touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Our sweet pets have the most incredible impact on our lives and touch our hearts so deeply that we think of them as one of the family.
If more people could stop with the drugs and violence and open their heart to a pet and feel the euphoria of unconditional love I think we will have a better world to live in. I am so sorry for your loss of Charlie. If you need help healing come an visit me and we will walk together through the shelter until you feel better, and in time you may hear those words again, “Choose me” and fill your heart with love once again.
