As you may know the scheduled Bark in the Park at Tiger Town was rained out Friday, May 15 and will be rescheduled to a later date.  This will be the SPCA’s second annual event at Tiger Town.  Please stay tuned as we get that date finalized so we can enjoy the ball game with our furry friends.

A recent post told you about our Grief Counseling Class which will be held this weekend. Space is still available, and the class is free to the public.

We are so excited for Forrest. Dr. Latter at All Creatures Animal Clinic has made it possible for him to get hydrotherapy which has helped a ton!

If you watch the video, you will see that Forrest’s back legs are moving a little. When he’s in the yard, he can take about 5 steps before he loses his footing. It’s such an outstanding thing to watch.

Our Guardian Angels have also made it possible for us to get him a new set of wheels.

Take a look at what our Guardian Angels have done.

Better yet, he has even found a home. Happy endings like this are what we live for!

Thank you to our Guardian Angels and to Dr. Latter and his staff at All Creatures!

Crystal and Lannie at Lakeside Village

Crystal and Lannie at Lakeside Village

The SPCA is proud to announce Crystal Grange as the Volunteer of the Month for May!  Crystal, a Tampa resident, began assisting at SPCA’s Brandon off-site adoptions in July 2008.  Since then, she has moved on to helping regularly at our Lakeside Village store and taking on additional leadership roles we have needed, such as running events and processing adoptions. She is such a dedicated and hard working individual, rarely missing a Saturday opportunity to help animals find forever homes.  Since July, Crystal has donated over 135 hours for the SPCA.

SPCA Board Member, and off-site committee member, Denise Gross says, “Crystal is a very giving and kind person. She is very knowledgeable about animals. She will do anything that we ask her to do. We appreciate her so much.” Board Member Ann Harman adds, “She is very committed to the welfare of the pets and finding the best home through each adoption opportunity. She is always willing to take on any tasks with a smile and is calm under pressure.”

Crystal is married, and is a proud pet mom of two cats and three dogs (two of her dogs were found as strays and one came from the SPCA of Tampa Bay).  She is about to obtain an MBA in August from USF and hopes to one day soon work for a non profit organization in animal welfare.

When asked what made Crystal choose the SPCA, she replied, “I have always had a passion for helping animals. I always took in strays and found them homes (or kept them). I just though it was about time to step up and do more since I am nearing the end of my school career and had more free time on my hands to do some of the things I enjoy. I love working with animals and helping them, it is very rewarding.”

By the way, I noticed that Crystal is even helping us spread the word while she sends emails; her signature includes:  “Support the SPCA or find a new friend at www.lovemyspca.com

Thank you Crystal, for all you do for the animals- we are lucky to have amazing volunteers, like YOU, on our team!

FOX 13′s Ken Suarez and Jamie Cook  just left after doing some pieces for a story on a grief counseling class that we are holding this month.

Grief is hard! I’ve lost loved ones before, and there’s nothing quite like that emptiness. When I was little, we had a pair of cocker spaniels. When the girl passed away, I remember sitting in front of the window in the dining room and crying because I missed her.

This class will help those who have lost a pet deal with the grief that they face. Dr. Jeanne Raschke has asked those attending the class to bring pictures and maybe even have something ready to share.

It’s a great opportunity to learn “how to deal” and best of all it’s free.
